Guys That Give: How 100+ Local Men Are Quietly Transforming Simcoe County

There’s something powerful about a simple idea done consistently.
Four times a year.
One room.
Roughly 100 local men.
Each writing a cheque for $101.
And by the end of the night?
A local charity walks out with $10,000.
That’s the story of Guys That Give — a hyper-local grassroots collective that has now donated over $440,000 to charities right here in our community. With the most recent meeting, that number will officially pass $450,000.
No gala.
No long campaign.
No complicated structure.
Just people showing up.
And giving.
How Guys That Give Works
The format is simple — and that’s the brilliance of it.
At each quarterly meeting:
-
Three members each nominate a local charity.
-
Those charities present their cause and a specific use for the $10,000.
-
The charities leave the room.
-
Members vote.
-
Votes are counted.
-
The winner is announced that night.
Every member commits to $101 per meeting.
That guarantees at least $10,000 goes directly to a local cause.
Sometimes more.
If attendance pushes the total above the $10,000 threshold, the surplus often goes to the runner-up.
No red tape.
No overhead layers.
Just direct impact.
The Most Recent Meeting
At the latest gathering, members heard from:
-
Hope Barrie
-
Christmas Cheer
-
Barrie Families Unite
After the vote, Barrie Families Unite received the majority.
Once all member contributions are collected, that $101 multiplied across the room becomes another $10,000 investment back into Simcoe County.
And with this round?
Total donations will surpass $450,000.
That’s local generosity in action.
Why This Model Works
It works because it’s:
Simple.
Time-efficient.
Accountable.
Transparent.
And hyper-local.
Every dollar stays in the community.
Every charity must present a clear use case.
Every member has a vote.
There’s no pressure. No fundraising sales pitch. No ongoing volunteer obligation.
Just four nights a year.
