Spring is starting to show up… here’s what’s happening around Simcoe County this April

If you’re anything like most people around here, you’re probably ready to turn the page on winter.

April in Simcoe County always feels like that shift point.

Longer days. A bit more energy. And finally a reason to start getting out of the house again.

And while the weather doesn’t always fully cooperate right away, the local scene definitely starts to wake up.

The season of “getting back out there”

There’s something about early spring that changes people’s routines.

You start thinking about:

  • getting outside more
  • making weekend plans again
  • reconnecting with people you haven’t seen in a while
  • exploring local spots you haven’t been to in months

And across Barrie, Orillia, and the surrounding communities, there’s no shortage of ways to do exactly that.

Local events and things to do this April

As we move through April, you’ll start to see more activity across the region, including:

  • Spring markets and pop-up events featuring local vendors, food, and handmade goods
  • Live music and small venue performances returning to local bars and community spaces
  • Theatre productions and community shows picking up again after a quieter winter stretch
  • Early-season outdoor activities like trails, waterfront walks, and patio openings on warmer days

It’s not peak summer energy yet—but that’s part of the appeal.

It’s a slower, more relaxed way to ease back into things.

A good reminder of why people love living here

This time of year also does something else.

It reminds you why people choose to live in Simcoe County in the first place.

The balance.

Close enough to the city when you need it—but far enough away to actually enjoy your day-to-day life.

Whether it’s grabbing coffee downtown, heading out for a walk along the waterfront, or just getting out of the house for a change of pace, it starts to feel easier again.

Simple ideas to kick off the season

You don’t need a big plan to make the most of this time of year.

Sometimes it’s as simple as:

  • picking a new local spot to try
  • planning a casual weekend outing
  • getting outside for an hour instead of staying in
  • saying yes to something you would’ve skipped in February

That shift alone is usually enough to reset things.

Final thought

Spring doesn’t arrive all at once around here—but when it starts, you feel it.

And April is really the beginning of that transition.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to get back out, this is it.
